    Subject: Resource: Russia Wants to Monitor The Net

    I have now seen two articles on the Net about Russia's FSB security
    agency, formerly the KGB, reportedly working to establish a "SORM" -- the
    acronym for "system for ensuring investigative activity". This would force
    all providers of Internet services to install a snooping device in their
    main computers and build a dedicated information superhighway connecting
    it with FSB.

    The Russian secret police would be able to monitor, in real time, every
    e-mail message and Web page sent or received by Russians...

    The first article was back on July 21 at
    <http://www.mercurycenter.com/breaking/headline2/065854.htm>.

    Now a new one has appeared at
    <http://cnn.com/TECH/computing/9808/11/russia.big.brother/index.html?st.ne.fd.mnaw>

    announcing a Russian web site, with information in Russian and some in
    English, who is "fighting back".
