LUMUT: Instigation by subversive elements and computer hacking are
threats to national security the Armed Forces have to tackle in
    future.

Chief of Defence Forces Jen Tan Sri Mohamed Zahidi Zainuddin said the
army, navy and air force would have to be ready to combat and prevent
such threats arising from within the country as well as from abroad
    from destabilising the country.

"Threats faced by the Armed Forces will change from the conventional
type of fighting communists to computer hacking and instigation," he
told reporters after witnessing the 69th Armed Forces Day parade at
the Royal Malaysian Navy base here yesterday.

Also present were army chief Jen Tan Sri Md Hashim Hussein, air force
chief Jen Datuk Seri Suleiman Mahmud and navy chief Laksamana Datuk
    Mohd Ramly Abu Bakar.

Jen Zahidi said he was confident the Armed Forces would be able to
acquire all the expertise and intelligence to tackle such threats,
adding that an IT unit had been created for the purpose.

Earlier, Jen Zahidi said the Armed Forces were finding out why young
people were not interested in joining the military.

He said the Armed Forces would continue to fight for the welfare of
army personnel as part of efforts to motivate them to stay on.
