The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency will sponsor an industry
workshop on defending mobile ad hoc networks Feb. 18.

DARPA wants to develop technologies that protect such networks from
worms, malicious codes, remote intrusions and run-time failures. It
did not say when it plans to issue the program's requests for
    proposals.

According to an announcement released today, the Defense Department's
research and development shop must prepare and develop defenses for
mobile ad-hoc networks because the department's emerging
network-centric warfare systems will experience computer network
attacks and hardware and software failures, which could prevent forces
    from accomplishing their missions.

The workshop fee is $125 per person. The event is limited to three
    people per organization.

DARPA will hold the workshop at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in
Arlington, Va. The registration deadline is Feb. 12.

Signup forms for the event and for giving an oral presentation are
available by e-mailing Leanne Wiegand at lwiegand@private
