HITBSecConf2006 - The Largest Network Security Event in Asia!

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Hack In The Box (M) Sdn Bhd has announced that
it will once again be hosting the industrys most anticipated annual
security conference, HITBSecConf2006, in Kuala Lumpur at The Westin
Hotel from 18-21 September 2006.

This home-grown non-profit hacking and network security conference will
feature over 30 of the worlds leading network security specialists who
will be on hand to conduct 7 tracks of technical training sessions on
the 18th and 19th of September. Topics for the training sessions include
advance web application & services hacking; attacking & defending
networks; the exploit laboratory; tactical VoIP: applied VoIPhreaking;
War driving .Gov; structured network threat analysis and forensics; and
Yin and Yang of Java security programming.

This training will then be followed by two days of deep knowledge
network security presentations with topics ranging from network
assessment and attack methods, fundamental defense methodologies, and
the latest computer and network security technologies.

In addition, there will also be a live hacking competition known
popularly as Capture The Flag. The competition, first developed and
presented at Defcon in Las Vegas, is an attack and defense game which
sees teams of individuals tasked with defending and attacking into
prepared servers in order to retrieve marked files or flags on these
target machines.

The main aim of the HITB series of conferences is to allow the
dissemination of deep-knowledge network security info and at the same
time, give the attendees a chance to meet with the worlds leading
experts in this field. The presentations at the event are delivered by
respected members of both the mainstream network security arena as well
as the underground or black hat community. As always attendees can be
assured of being amongst the first to learn of new attack and defence
methods that have not been discussed in public before, said Dhillon
Andrew Kannabhiran, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hack In The
Box (M) Sdn. Bhd.

We believe the conference is also an ideal opportunity for IT and
security vendors from within the ASEAN region to meet with not only the
experts but also to share their own expertise and technology with the
public, he added.

Industry-acclaimed keynote speakers

The conference keynote speakers for this year will feature Bruce
Schneier, Founder and Chief Technical Officer of Counterpane Internet
Security; Mark Curphey, Vice President of Consulting at Foundstone; and
John Viega, Chief Security Architect at McAfee.

Schneier is internationally-renowned cryptologist and author. To date,
he has authored eight books, including his current best seller, Beyond
Fear: Thinking Sensibly about Security in an Uncertain World. Schneier
is also credited for designing the popular Blowfish and Twofish
encryption algorithms ?- the latter a finalist for the new Federal
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Bruce serves on the board of
directors of the International Association for Cryptologic Research, and
is also an Advisory Board member for the Electronic Privacy Information
Center.

Recognised for his work in the software security field, Mark Curphey was
the Director of Information Security at Charles Schwab where he was
responsible for creating and managing the global application security
program when software security wasnt yet on most companies radars. He
also founded the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) that has
become a well-regarded reference site for developers and system
architects and recommended reading by the US Federal Trade Committee.
Curphey is currently Vice President of Consulting at Foundstone and is
responsible for the global services team.

John Viega is the co-author of three books on application security --
Building Secure Software, Network Security with OpenSSL and the Secure
Programming Cookbook. He also built the CLASP application security
process, which is available online. Viega co-developed GCM, a mode of
operation for block ciphers such as AES that has been incorporated into
IPSec and the 802.1AE draft document, and is currently being
standardised by NIST. Despite being cautious about embracing the open
source security theory, John has been involved in many open source
projects. He was the original author of the Mailman mailing list
manager, and has been author or co-author of many other free projects,
including RATS, SafeStr, XXL and ITS4.
