http://www.fcw.com/article96685-11-02-06-Web By Josh Rogin Nov. 2, 2006 The Air Force plans to establish a new command to bring full-scale military operations to cyberspace, Secretary of the Air Force Michael Wynne announced Nov. 2. Air Force officials will work on plans for the new command throughout 2007, with the goal of going operational in 2009, Wynne said. The Cyber Command will be part of the 8th Air Force. Service officials have said they view cyberspace as a strategic and tactical warfighting domain, similar to air, sea, land or space. In fact, the Air Force recently tweaked its mission statement to reflect cyberspaces importance. The new mission is to "deliver sovereign options for the defense of the United States of America and its global interests -- to fly and fight in air, space and cyberspace, Wynne said. The aim is to develop a major command that stands alongside Air Force Space Command and Air Combat Command as the provider of forces that the president, combatant commanders and the American people can rely on for preserving the freedom of access and commerce, in air, space and now cyberspace, the Air Force said in a statement. More details to follow. _________________________________ Visit the InfoSec News store! http://www.shopinfosecnews.org
