A laptop computer containing a spreadsheet with the Social Security
numbers and other personal information of about 2,000 people was
reported stolen Monday by the Utah Department of Workforce Services.

The computer is password-protected, making it less likely an
unauthorized person would be able to access its contents, according to a
DWS press release.

DWS is reviewing its policies with all employees to prevent a similar
theft in the future.

The department is individually contacting every person listed on the
spreadsheet to let them know that his or her personal information may
have been compromised. DWS promised to help any individuals who
experience problems stemming from the theft.
