http://columbiatribune.com/2007/Oct/20071010Busi001.asp By the Tribunes staff October 10, 2007 Personal information on 20 Commerce Bank customers was accessed during what the bank is describing as "an attempted hacking" on one of its computer systems. The information was in a database that included 3,000 customers. Jenny Stanley, regional marketing manager, said the database contained personal information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, mothers maiden names, phone numbers and, in a few instances, Commerce Bank checking or savings account numbers. She said some of the 20 customers live in Mid-Missouri but declined to be more specific. Stanley said Commerces security team discovered the attack a little more than a week ago, shut it down immediately and called the FBI, which is investigating the incident. Letters notifying the affected customers of the breach were mailed Saturday, Stanley said. Commerce is providing free credit monitoring service to affected customers for 24 months, she said. Customers can call (877) 279-4046 for more information. In a news release, Commerce said it is "carefully and actively monitoring all accounts for fraudulent activity."
