According to organizers of the SOURCE Boston [2] confab, many of the original L0pht members will be speaking on a panel for the first time in 10 years. The members of the hacker group, founded in Boston in 1992, are considered pioneers in security research and vulnerability disclosure. The LOpht, which later morphed into @Stake, also created and released L0phtCrack (a password cracker for Windows NT) and famously testified before Congress that they could shut down the entire Internet in 30 minutes. It is not yet known if all eight final members of the L0pht (Brian Oblivion, Kingpin, Mudge, Dildog, Weld Pond, Space Rogue, Silicosis and John Tan) will appear on the panel of the conference, which is being organized by people close to security vendor Veracode. For more on the history of the group, see this CSO Online feature [3] and this PBS.org profile [4].
