Details of the full extent of the security breach are expected to emerge when the findings of an investigation into the laptop thefts are disclosed. Four laptops were stolen from the Bord Gais offices on Foley Street in Dublin city centre on June 5, including at least one containing unencrypted customer information and bank account details. Gardai investigated the theft of the laptops, while the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner is investigating why the laptop with the customer information was not encrypted. Bord Gais informed gardai and theData Protection Commissioner six days after the robbery, but did not initially reveal that the laptop was unprotected by encryption.
