Analysis

Without a Cyber Security Czar in the federal government updates to the
current Federal Information Security Act (FISMA) are not likely to
happen quickly. In the meantime we are not trouble because the National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) computer security experts
have important updates to federal security policy ready to roll out and
all civilian, defense and even intelligence agencies at the federal
level are aligning their security programs with them. Often times it
appears the worker bees in government come up with the critical ideas
and the politicians make adjustments around the edges. Updates to FISMA
2 are likely to follow this same course. Final analysis, the lack of a
federal Cyber Security Czar is not likely to slow progress in this
important area.
