Title: Security Vulnerabilities in CDE on HP-UX

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
        HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY SECURITY BULLETIN: #00151, 23 May 2001
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

The information in the following Security Bulletin should be acted upon
as soon as possible. Hewlett-Packard Company will not be liable for any
consequences to any customer resulting from customer's failure to fully
implement instructions in this Security Bulletin as soon as possible.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM: Buffer overflows and other vulnerabilities in CDE for HP-UX.

    PLATFORM: HP9000 Series 700/800 running HP-UX releases 10.10, 10.20,
               10.24, 11.00, 11.04 and 11.11.

DAMAGE: Possible increase in privilege, denial of service.

SOLUTION: Install the appropriate patch for the HP-UX release:

               10.10: PHSS_23355,
               10.20: PHSS_23796,
               10.24: PHSS_24097,
               11.00: PHSS_23797,
               11.04: PHSS_24098,
               11.11: PHSS_24087 and PHSS_24091.

AVAILABILITY: The patches are available now.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
       A. Background
Vulnerabilities have been found in several CDE modules.

       B. Fixing the problem
Apply the appropriate patches as listed above. Because of the
way that CDE is packaged on 11.11 two patches are required for
          that revision. Note patch dependencies.
