Folks, Our speaker, Toby Kohlenberg, wants to change the title of his presentation to: "Intrusion Detection Systems-- Everything you ever needed to know to find out what you need to know (but were afraid to ask)" Summary: Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) have been used in computing for more than 3 decades. However, they have only recently come into the public eye and because of this, there are many things about them that are not generally well understood. This talk will review the different types of IDS and the ways they attempt to find malicious events. Toby will provide a list of references that can be used to get additional information about IDS. This will be, by necessity, a high-level overview--however, questions of any depth are welcome. About Toby: Toby is a senior information security specialist for a Fortune 500 company. Prior to focusing on security, he worked as a systems and network administrator and engineer in heterogeneous environments varying in size from small to globally distributed large environments. Toby is a CISSP and a GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst. He has spent the last year driving use and guiding the deployment of IDS for his employer.
