Excerpt from a recent HPD report:

"Theft from vehicle at Old Spaghetti Factory.  Broken window, briefcase with
Compaq laptop computer inside.  Occurred between 1830-2000hrs."

In plain view and unattended--two circumstances that are anathema to the
care and handling of high-value items... 
Laptop thefts from vehicles have been on the rise.  Please lock them in the
trunk (don't try to cover them up in the back seat--you're just telling the
thief it's a valuable item).  Better yet, carry the laptop with you.
