NIPC Daily Report 30 April 2002 Department of Labor launches new Web site. On 29 April, the Department of Labor officially launched GovBenefits.gov, a Web site designed to simplify access to information about government programs. The site is being billed as the first of the Bush administration's e-government initiatives to get underway. The site cost about $1 million to set up. (Washington Post , 29 Apr) New FCC rules help 911 response. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted new rules designed to enhance the efficient handling and rapid response to calls for emergency assistance made from wireless mobile telephones. Specifically, the Commission addressed issues associated with the inability to call back a 911 caller who is disconnected when that caller is using a non-service-initialized (or non-initialized) wireless telephone. So that dispatchers will recognize wireless callers and be alerted that their call cannot be returned, the FCC will require that wireless phones be programmed so that 123-456-7890 shows on dispatcher's screen.
