And we thought Oregon DHS just had problems with INFOSEC..... I guess radiation protection is lacking as well... Loss of dangerous equipment prompts health alert Residents who live in or travel through the areas of north Beaverton to the St. Johns Bridge in North Portland are warned to be on the lookout for a radiation-containing piece of road equipment that fell from a truck yesterday and has not been located. The equipment is potentially very dangerous, according to public health officials at the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS). "Currently, officials are looking for the equipment," says Terry Lindsey, radiation protection manager in DHS. "But it's possible that someone could find it along the highway and not know the danger it poses." Missing is a bright yellow Troxler 3440 nucelar density gauge, along with a bright yellow transport container. Both pieces are marked "Radioactive Material" or "Caution-Radioactive Material." "If anyone spots these items or has picked one of them up, they should immediately call 911," says Lindsey. "They should not approach or handle the gauge. It is potentially very dangerous if the radiation inside becomes unshielded. If someone has gotten close to it, he or she should seek medical attention." Photos of the nuclear density gauge are on the Web at www.troxlerlabs.com/3440.html and photos of the transport container are at www.troxlerlabs.com/wheels.html The truck carrying the gauge and container traveled down NW Emily Lane in Beaverton to NW Bethany Blvd. to NW West Union Road to NW 18th Avenue to NW Germantown Road to the St. Johns Bridge. Anyone with questions or concerns should call DHS radiation protection services at (503) 731-4014. =========================================================================== IMPORTANT NOTICE: This communication, including any attachment, contains information that may be confidential or privileged, and is intended solely for the entity or individual to whom it is addressed.
