    A couple of comments.
    
    Unless I've missed something, this doesn't contain anything like (or
    address) what Tina was proposing, namely a canonical glossary of
    message types for classification purposes.
    
    And, if I ran the circus, the timestamps would be normalized to a
    reference timezone before I called 'em canon, and what's more the
    time representation I used would be a very arithmetically simple
    linear progression of seconds, rather than an elaborate multi-base
    system where the number of items in each counter varies wildly from
    counter to counter, and unpredictably over time. Leave the knowlege
    of all the weirdo timezones and how they change over time, not to
    mention leap seconds, in the hands of the presentation library.
