Done, now reporting back.

I've only spent about 30 minutes installing X.org and getting it run :-)

I've installed the following RPMs from FC4:

  expat-1.95.8-6.i386.rpm
  freetype-2.1.9-2.i386.rpm
  fontconfig-2.2.3-13.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-Mesa-libGLU-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-font-utils-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  libpng-1.2.8-2.i386.rpm
  fonts-xorg-base-6.8.2-1.noarch.rpm
  xorg-x11-tools-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-xfs-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-xauth-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xinitrc-4.0.18-1.noarch.rpm
  xterm-200-6.i386.rpm
  chkfontpath-1.10.0-4.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-xdm-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm
  xorg-x11-twm-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm

I have also installed one rpm from FC3:

  ttmkfdir-3.0.9-14.i386.rpm

ttmkfdir from fc4 required a newer version of libstdc++:
      ttmkfdir: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.4' not
      found (required by ttmkfdir)

Then I changed /etc/pam.d/xserver according to suggestions from
Owl/doc/REDHAT and now I can run X as grg using 'xinit' :-)
