It's free, of course. Thanks for considering, Best, Wayne Crews ---------- Dear Cato TechKnowledge reader: I would like to invite you to "Closing 'Windows' on Antitrust or Opening a New Era of Intervention? Competition Policy after the Microsoft Settlement," a policy forum at the Cato Institute on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. (luncheon to follow). While Microsoft and the Justice Department move toward a settlement of their antitrust case, some state attorneys general vow that we haven't heard the last from them. What does the future hold for the company and the competitive environment? Does the settlement represent light at the end of the tunnel for Microsoft or just a temporary reprieve? Do the new XP operating system and the Web-centric Hailstorm strategy represent positive developments or something sinister, as opponents allege? Panelists will analyze the settlement and square off on the broader role of antitrust policy in the high-tech economy. The forum will feature former Solicitor General Kenneth Starr, Jeffrey Eisenach of the Progress and Freedom Foundation, Cato's Robert A. Levy, and Jonathan Zuck of the Association for Competitive Technology. The event will be moderated by James C. Miller III of Citizens for a Sound Economy. Cato policy forums and luncheons are free of charge. To register for this event, please visit http://www.cato.org/events/020116pf.html or call Julie Johnson by 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2002, at (202) 789-5229, fax her at (202) 371-0841, or e-mail to jjohnsonat_private Yours Sincerely, Wayne Crews ------------------------------------------------------------------------- POLITECH -- Declan McCullagh's politics and technology mailing list You may redistribute this message freely if you include this notice.
