[Guess biotech researchers would never have thought of using the Internet
until Uncle Al stepped in. Lucky for us he's around! --Declan]

It looks like Gore's back in business. Is this the beginning of Campaign
    2004?

Gore promotes benefits of combining biotech and information technology
    BY PAUL JACOBS <mailto:pjacobsat_private>
    Mercury News
In a relaxed, not-quite-political speech spiced with self-deprecating
humor, former Vice President Al Gore urged a crowd of health care and
finance executives Wednesday to boost research based on the deciphering of
the human genetic code and to beef up America's health delivery system.
He was introduced to a standing-room-only, lunchtime audience at the annual
JPMorgan H&Q conference in San Francisco as the man who got more votes than
any other presidential candidate except Ronald Reagan -- ``more votes than
    the current officeholder.''
Bearded and wearing a dark suit, Gore did not rise to the bait as he spoke
impromptu about the potential benefits of joining biotech and information
technology, reflecting his new, part-time roles as university professor and
vice chairman of Metropolitan West Financial, a Los Angeles investment
company, where he'll focus on technology.

By combining the power of the Internet with biotechnology, he said, it
should be possible to anticipate the movement of epidemics across the
continents the way meteorologists follow the weather -- an application he
    called ``virtual epidemiology.''
