        Ofcom won't ban spam
        By Graeme Wearden

An attempt to force Ofcom, the new regulator for Britain's
telecommunications and broadcasting sectors, to take action on
pornographic spam is likely to be unsuccessful.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday evening, MP Derek Wyatt
said that Ofcom should make Internet Service Providers (ISPs) tackle
the issue of unsolicited pornographic emails. Wyatt also wants a law
brought in to protect children from such material.

However, senior officials at Ofcom have insisted that they will not
        regulate the Internet.
