What's the point of advocating that hacker activists interested in
"protecting civil liberties" and "spreading democratic values" help
the government -- by publishing an article in a Microsoft proprietary
format? Clearly the author is clueless about what motivates hacker
activists, many of whom on principle won't even read his screed.

With all due respect, John, my article was intended to bring legal issues to
light before a general audience. An audience that is not necessarily
tech-savvy and who would not normally be exposed to these important matters.
The fact remains that, for better or worse, the vast majority of these
people use Microsoft products. However, if you find the use of the incumbent
monopoly's product repugnant, please feel free to use Open Office's product
(http://openoffice.org). I sincerely hope that active members in the
political/technological community, such as yourself, are hungry enough for
constructive dialogue to get past the bun and move onto the meat.

    Regards,

    Mark
