I saw the National Post story on the plane to Ottawa yesterday. It was the top story with a banner headline. I haven't read the auditor general's report myself, but if the allegations are correct (I have no reason to believe otherwise) it really is a fiasco up here. It looks like the report is available here: http://www.oag-bvg.gc.ca/domino/reports.nsf/html/20030930ce.html http://www.oag-bvg.gc.ca/domino/media.nsf/html/20030930pre.html And a Globe and Mail story about the RCMP starting a criminal investigation: http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20030930.waudit0930_2/BNStory/National/ -Declan --- From: "Jim Harper" <<mailto:jim.harper@private>im.harper@privacilla.<mailto:jim.harper@private>org> To: <declan@private> Subject: Why not to have a privacy commissioner Date: Thu, 2 Oct 2003 09:11:36 -0400 <http://www.canada.com/ottawa/ottawacitizen/story.asp?id=EE8D9311-22FA-4BB9-9DC6-A5D498F33842>http<http://www.canada.com/ottawa/ottawacitizen/story.asp?id=EE8D9311-22FA-4BB9-9DC6-A5D498F33842>://www.canada.com/ottawa/ottawacitizen/story.asp?id=EE8D9311-22FA-4BB9-9DC6-A5D498F33842 I don't know if you've seen this, but Canada's Privacy Commissioner fiasco continues. Credit where credit is due: At least Canada will punish what wrongdoing is found. Europe probably gives its privacy bureaucrats <i>carte blanche</i> to free-spend tax dollars.
