    Seems that many/most of these units can be defeated by reward facing IR 
    lamps, increasing the surface reflectance of the license plate or maybe 
    even placing some 3M privacy screen plastic (the type used to prevent 
    spying over the shoulder at someone's ATM activities) angled so that patrol 
    cars behind you can see the plate just fine but not those viewing from 
    above.  Some interesting links on speed camera technology and possible
