    Dear Declan,

Consumers Union, the non-profit publisher of Consumer Reports, has recently
launched a financial privacy campaign and website. Currently, our website
allows visitors to write letters to three major health insurance companies,
asking those companies to remove their customers' social security numbers
from ID cards and postal mail. Your Politechbot website and listserv have
been very active in helping to spread the word on the dangers of identity
theft, and we hoped you might also be interested in helping visitors to your
site prevent identity theft by removing their Social Security numbers from
their health insurance cards. Our website is www.financialprivacynow.org
<http://www.financialprivacynow.org> , and we would be pleased if you would
put a link from your site to ours.

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to answering any questions you
    might have about this proposal.

    Best wishes,
    Hannah
