I could be wrong, but I don't think this is related to the mulitple-window messaging as others have stated... I think this is more when a particular program uses a "format string" of the actual data to "mask" the passwords, kind of like the HTML Text Box can be set to use- obviously, it just masks the actual characters on screen, but passes the real data. These programs just remove the mask formatting. The "reveal" process doesn't work with all programs. For instance, the SQL Enterprise Manager displays asterisks for the passwords, but you can't use these programs to revel the real password.
