I don't want to be overly critical, but firing people out of security is a high-risk activity, and I'm suprised that someone looking to a management position in security doesn't understand why. After all, the person being fired knows exactly how your security is set up. Odds are really good that he knows about vulnerabilities. Etc. It needs to be handled carefully and well.
