    SUMMARY
    
    This is a senior level position for a managerial level individual with significant expertise in IT Security. Major functions of the position are: interacting with the MTA agencies in implementing and overseeing the enterprise security architecture; and the maintenance of the MTA HQ security and Business Recovery environment. The position serves as a group leader for multiple complex security projects that often extend for long periods of time and directly supervises normally two or more technical staff and indirectly supervises additional technical and non-technical security personnel. The position requires a seasoned professional as it operates with considerable independence and is "on call" on a 24/7 (24 hours a day/ seven days a week) basis.
    
    
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    
    Effect the development of, and ongoing upgrades to, the technical security infrastructure.
    
    Ensure a high level of logical and physical security for MTA HQ and coordinate efforts with agencies regarding the definition of enterprise security initiatives.
    
    Identify areas of security technology that require the formulation of enterprise security strategies predicated upon security industry "best practices" and business and technical justifications. 
    
    Perform oversight for outsourced security functions.
    
    Interact closely with internal and external auditing departments and security groups in order to continually assure the viability, effectiveness and integrity of the security infrastructure.
    
    Manage and coordinate staff efforts to assure strong security practices are in place and are being followed.
    
    
    DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    
    Ability to act at the highest level of professionalism and exhibit a strong leadership skill.
    
    Knowledge of Novell, NT, Unix (Solaris) security and RACF mainframe security processes.
    
    Ability to work with minimum supervision and handle critical and stressful situations.
    
    Must have strong security awareness and posses good verbal and written skills.
    
    
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    
    A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent plus a minimum of 8 to 10 years of professional active security experience.
    
    OR a Master's Degree in Computer Science or its equivalent plus a minimum of 5 years of professional level experience.
    
    Management experience preferred.
    
    Extensive Firewall and/or network security experience preferred.
    
    Active LAN/WAN (Client Server) security experience.
