When i was playing around letting mirc communicate with msn messenger i
found the following bug in msn messenger:
Sending a nick change to the server with a nick existing of the ascii
characters 249-253 will disconnect all the users that have you in their
    contact list.

When you are instant messaging someone and you change your nick, the
server will not send your nick change to that user so he will not get
    disconnected.

Changing your nick in the standard msnm client to the ascii characters
249-253 will not work, because it sends Ã<something> as your nick
instead of the ascii characters 249-253.
