Once you hitted CTRL-ALT-F[1-6] and got to the session that started X, you can hit: CTRL-Z and send a SIGSTOP there. Then you can takeover the user shell and SIGKILL the `xlock` proccess. What you do next is type: "fg" and get back to X (with CTRL-ALT-F7, perhaps). There is your X session free of the nasty xlock... when you are done, execute xlock again and everything will look like it was left.
