01Sep98 AUSTRALIA: LIBS HACKED FROM POLICY TO PORN.
    By MATTHEW HORAN.

THE first election dirty tricks turned X-rated yesterday after computer
hackers linked the Liberal Party's official Web site to pornography sites.
The hackers rearranged the Liberal's Ministerial page, dubbing Treasurer
Peter Costello the Minister for the Rich, Stomping the Poor and Wrecking
the Economy and naming Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer as
"Failed as Leader but Given a Cushy Job".

And instead of linking to the Ministers' official Web pages, the page is
linked to other Web sites including "Asian HQ - Asian Oriental XXX
    Hardcore".

Asian HQ offers "XXX Photos, Adult Chat and Live Sex Shows". Other
Ministers have been linked to "Sex Roulette", another pornographic Web
    site.

The hackers gave almost every Minister a new nickname, with Peter "Crush
the Unions" Reith now "Minister for Destruction of Workplace Fairness, the
    Gestapo and Propaganda".

His official Web site has been changed to link to his waterfront nemesis,
    the Maritime Union of Australia.

Mr Downer's name no longer links to the Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, but to Disneyland.com. His portfolio now reads "Minister for
    Foreign Humiliation".

The Liberals' Web site, www.liberal.org.au, is understood to have been the
victim of a hacker attack yesterday morning.

Other entries include: David (Ejucashun Rulz!) Kemp - Minister for
Education and Jocelyn (If they cannot find work it is their fault) Newman
    - Minister for Poverty Continuation.

A senior government spokesman last night said the Web site was shut down
after the Herald Sun sought comment on the hacking.

An Opposition spokesman said: "The Labor Party does not condone the
hacking of any Web site, let alone a political Web site."
