Communications and IT Minister A Raja announced this at the concluding session of an international conference organised by CBI and Interpol for cooperation against cyber crimes and cyber terrorism. Raja said although cyber crime cases had increased, they went largely unreported because of two factors: the fear of business secret leakages and lack of trust in law enforcement agencies ability. He said the grant would help the CBI to acquire the latest softwares that would help the agency in training security personnel in states. The minister said anyone could be a potential target of cyber crimes anywhere in the world because of the increasing number of mobile phones, coupled with advanced wireless technology. He also offered the CBI the assistance of IT Ministrys experts. Raja also referred to a pending bill in the parliament to amend the Information Technology Act, 2000, to deal with a number of issues, including data protection and theft, e-commerce fraud, child pornography, identity documents theft and privacy. Only two weeks ago, a parliamentary committee examined the act and noted that it was not useful, as it didnt even properly define the terms cyber crimes and cyber terrorism. ___________________________________________________________ CSI 2007 is the only conference and exhibition that delivers a business focused overview of enterprise security.
