The theft occurred some time last Friday, said bank spokesman Denis Dubé. The thief broke into an employee's office and took the laptop computer, which was anchored by a cable. "The computer was linked to a cable and the cable was cut," he said. Nothing else was taken from the office and police are investigating. Mr. Dubé said the computer contained some information about customers who have mortgages with the bank. He declined to say exactly how many names were on the laptop, other than it was a "high percentage" of the bank's clients. National Bank is the sixth-largest bank in the country and has roughly 30 per cent of the market share for financial services in Quebec.
