Security-Focus.com is pleased to announce the availability of a new feature on our site, that we call the Solaris Vulnerability Calculator. By simply entering the information for a given revision of Solaris, and a list of patches installed on the system being evaluated, the vulnerability calculator will give a list of the vulnerabilities that may still be present on the system, along with the list of patches missing, when available. We hope it will significantly cut down on the amount of time it takes someone to do an initial evaluation of their Solaris system security. As new vulnerabilities and patches become available, they will be integrated into our database. The Vulnerability Calculator can help keep track of these new vulnerabilities, and what new patches need to be installed. It can be accessed at: http://www.securityfocus.com/sun/vulncalc We are also pleased to announce the formation of a new mailing list, dedicated to all aspects of security for Sun products. It is intended to be a forum where people at a wide variety of experience levels can go to ask, seek advice, or relate some of their experiences, as related to security aspects of products from Sun. Have some tips or advice about patching the latest Solaris vulnerability? A perfect post. Confused about what the security impact of a service is? Also a perfect topic. In contrast to Bugtraq, this list is not about vulnerabilities -- it is about addressing common security problems and concerns specific to Sun's product line. The list can be subscribed to by sending the following command, in the body of a mail message, to listservat_private: Subscribe Focus-Sun Firstname Lastname The FAQ for the Focus-Sun mailing list can be found at: http://www.securityfocus.com/sun/focus-sun/faq In conjunction with this mailing list, we're also rolling out a new area on our site, dedicated to Sun products as well. This area will highlight the aspects of our site specific to Sun users. Vulnerabilities, commercial products, free tools, and publications relevant to Sun products are all easily available. On a regular basis, exclusive Security-Focus.com articles, covering such topics as secure installation of Solaris, securely installing Solaris, and other less widely understood aspects of Sun products will be published. The site can be seen at: http://www.securityfocus.com/sun If you have any questions or comments about the Focus-Sun area, or the Focus-Sun mailing list, please feel free to mail me. -Jeremy Rauch Manager, Sun Focus area jrauchat_private
