    CONECTIVA LINUX SECURITY ANNOUNCEMENT
    - --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    PACKAGE : xinetd
SUMMARY : Security and bugfix update for xinetd
    DATE : 2001-08-29 15:08:00
    ID : CLA-2001:416
    RELEVANT
    RELEASES : 6.0, 7.0

    - -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    DESCRIPTION
"xinetd" is an alternative to the inetd superserver, used to start
     services on demand.
Solar Designer did a security audit in this package and produced a
patch that was accepted by the author and incorporated in version
2.3.1 and later. This patch fixes many security and reliability
     issues with xinetd.
Another issue is that the version shipped with Conectiva Linux 7.0
has IPv6 enabled, causing it to not work with IPv4-only systems. This
     update disables IPv6 support.
Please note that xinetd is not used by default on these versions of
     Conectiva Linux.

    SOLUTION
It is recommended that all xinetd users upgrade their packages.
Please note that xinetd will be automatically restarted if it is
     already running.
