    About Vignette
    --------------

Vignette develops Content Management and Application Portal Software.

    Description of vulnerability
    ----------------------------

The default login template, commonly located at /vgn/login, used in Vignette for user authentication, permits external attackers to enumerate valid accounts names on the system.

The response given by this template, varies if the user exists, if the user doesn't exists or if the account is disabled.

This leads to know the status of each username and to launch brute force attacks to obtain the list of the valid user accounts.

    Affected Versions and platforms
    -------------------------------

This vulnerability has been tested in Vignette StoryServer 5 and Vignette V/5. But it seems that all currently avaliable versions are vulnerable.

    Solution
    --------

Modify the /vgn/login template to avoid the explicit error messages for authentication.
Vignette users should procceed to contact vignette throught the standard channels VOLS etc in order to get a solution.
