You folks may be on top of this already, but it appears to be ugly. Vote.A This new mass-mailing worm propagates through Microsoft and sends itself to addressees in the infected users address book. The worm, written Visual Basic, will appear as an email message subjected "Fwd: Peace Between America and Islam" and will provide an attached file called WTC.exe (approx. 55kb in size). If the attached file is executed two infectious programs will initiate and insert themselves on the Windows/ System folder. If infected the worm will delete all files in the Windows directory along with creating a backdoor to allow unauthorized system access. <http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.vote.a@private> James R. This is based on the fact that TCO for IIS is rising due to the almost-weekly patches sent out by MS, and even then, it's nearly impossible to get patched quickly enough. Best part: 'Gartner remains concerned that viruses and worms will continue to attack IIS until Microsoft has released a completely rewritten, thoroughly and publicly tested, new release of IIS,' which they say has an 80% chance of happening by the end of next year." Gartner hasn't always said favorable things about Linux systems in the workplace, but the businesses that rely on this type of analysis to justify purchasing decisions may find this one interesting. -- Zot O'Connor http://www.ZotConsulting.com http://www.WhiteKnightHackers.com _______________________________________________ U-pass-ops mailing list U-pass-ops@private-pass.org http://lists.u-pass.org/mailman/listinfo/u-pass-ops _______________________________________________ U-pass-ops mailing list U-pass-ops@private-pass.org http://lists.u-pass.org/mailman/listinfo/u-pass-ops
