CRIME Email Pinging ??

Hi All:

Lately I have been experiencing a significant traffic
in unusual email behavior  ...  emails from unkown
sources, with either vague or empty subject lines, and
no (empty) body content.  I just got another one from
an account "te2st@private".  There have been many
other sources.

I am wondering if this is a kind of email pinging -
SPAMing lists and filtering for bounced returns
(indicating no email account there).  The deltas are
then deemed to be real and active accounts, and so
fair game for real SPAM messages.

Anyone else experiencing this?  Am I off the mark
here?
