*LAID-OFF EMPLOYEE CHARGED IN HACKING CASE

A former software company worker, apparently upset about being laid off
earlier this summer, stands charged with hacking into the systems of
several of the company's clients, including government agencies across
    California.

The FBI arrested Walter Wiggs, 44, for unauthorized access to a
protected computer. Before being laid off in June, Wiggs worked for
Technology for Business Corporation, a vendor of customized software
including an interactive voice response system for telephone call
    centers.

FBI spokesperson Cheryl Mimura says Wiggs used information he gained as
an insider to later access 13 networks running his former employer's
interactive voice software, in some cases deleting key information that
left the systems unable to function properly.

Clients affected included the cities of San Diego and Modesto and a Los
    Angeles county child abuse hotline.

The company didn't return calls for comment and Mimura was unable to say
what led to Wiggs' dismissal from the company.
