    I would also recommend learning and using NMAP.  Command line version
    for Wintel is more up to date compared to the GUI.  I would also
    recommend GFI Languard (more than just a port scanner though).

    	If you are going to do any testing beyond NMAP against your
    network I would recommend using *nix. NMAP is a great tool and Red Hat
    is easy to learn if you are not familiar with Linux.
    
    	I have run NMAP off of XP Pro and it works fine, you have to
    install WinPCap first. If you have tried and it is still not working try

    NMAP has problems with XP and did not find any open ports.  All of the
    port scan tools I found are run against the machine you are log into, I
