Andreas' script probably uses the cleanest method for creating a new, empty
logfile: touch(1). I just want to point out that "cp /dev/null BLAH" is hardly
ever necessary:
    
    >BLAH works well under virtually all modern shells

    versions of Csh to which I have access.
