...which deposits the 16-bit wide char MSGs intermixed with US-ASCII
HEADER data in a NL-delimited text file, where they're useless.

Let folks who want to log 16-bit msgs use RFC 3195 syslog-reliable,
where BEEP uses MIME-headed channels, which means you can use
separate channels for separate charsets, and specify the charset for
each one.
