[Seems more like it was not lack of legal authority but lack of attention
that prevented the search warrant from going through. --DBM]

    Declan,

    http://www.msnbc.com/news/636610.asp

has an article suggesting that a more liberal search warrant procedure,
based on evidence found after permission was given and after Sep 11,
might have prevented at least some of the actions.

Personally, while I believe strongly in protecting our civil liberties,
I'm curious why we seem to collectively believe that they need to be
extended fully to those who enter this country from abroad. It's long
been recognized that a US citizen is a lesser risk from a security
standpoint, especially a native (it's much easier to get a security
clearance if you're born here), because foreigners may not share our
value system and hence impose a greater measured risk to our security.

Look at it from networking theory - what's on the inside we trust to a
different level than what comes in from the outside.

    Regards,
    Billy
