Photos from this afternoon: http://www.mccullagh.org/theme/microsoft-states-settle-nov01.html Summary of this afternoon's events: * DOJ said in court that they have no problems with the nine-state deal and will not be a party to future litigation in this case. * Nine states (NY, Michigan, Ohio, NC, Kentucky, Louisana, Maryland, Illinois, Wisconsin) have settled with Microsoft and agreed to a modified version -- details to come -- of the DOJ's agreement inked last week. * Nine states and the District of Columbia are going to pursue the litigation. There were some hints in and out of the courtroom today that additional states currently in the pursue-Microsoft-through-the-courts coalition may defect. Personally, I kinda liked the fist-clenching-beat-up-Bill-Gates attitude exuded by Connecticut's top law enforcement official: http://www.mccullagh.org/image/d30-14/richard-blumenthal.html News coverage: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A47104-2001Nov6.html http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/07/technology/07SOFT.html Other recent photos on mccullagh.org (unrelated to Microsoft): http://www.mccullagh.org/theme/alcatraz-prison.html http://www.mccullagh.org/theme/sf-halloween-oct01.html http://www.mccullagh.org/theme/drag-race-oct01.html -Declan ------------------------------------------------------------------------- POLITECH -- Declan McCullagh's politics and technology mailing list You may redistribute this message freely if you include this notice.
