As I and my colleague noted in this article: http://news.com.com/2100-1023-958545.html?tag=fd_lede A single chapter of the earlier draft was about 100 pages--the far shorter report released Wednesday was 64 pages total including graphics--and singled out technologies like the Border Gateway Protocol and the Domain Name System as candidates for improvement. It even said that it's time for the federal government to become more involved in the development of Internet protocols, security and standards--a role currently assumed by the Internet Engineering Task Force. All those specific recommendations are absent from Wednesday's report, which includes roughly the same level of detail as the executive summary from last month's version. The more specific version may reappear when President Bush receives the document for approval after a two-month comment period. [...] The more detailed version is here, finally with pages in sequential order: http://www.politechbot.com/docs/wh/level-4.tif.gz -Declan --- Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 02:56:30 -0400 (EDT) From: Joe Baptista <baptista@dot-god.com> To: Declan McCullagh <declanat_private> cc: SteelHead <bill@ries-knight.net>, <politechat_private>, <gabeat_private> Hi: I read the exec summary and am not very impressed with the contents. The full report (at least level-4) is a better read for the technically minded. so i fixed the pages - they are now sequencial. [deleted, see URL above. --DBM] Please don't distribute the URL to the public. Your welcomed to take the copy and place it on your web sites - it's 3.7 megs zipped or 47 megs unzipped. The pages are all in order so it's an easier read. If any of you folks do index it on the web please provide me with the URL. I took the time to compile it because I think it will be very helpful to the ga@dnso of ICANN.
