Didn't see this on any of the politech listings. Fascinating, especially
the school district's contention that the "spokesperson" didn't know there
was a policy regarding the release of student information...

Effective immediately, anyone can get the names, addresses, phone numbers,
ages and other information for Orange County's 150,000-plus schoolchildren.

Reacting to news that the school district had been sharing the information
with political consultants and others, the Orange County School Board voted
6-1 Tuesday to release the information to everyone.

Parents may opt to keep their children's information private, possibly at
the beginning of the school year.

The issue raised so many questions that board members approved it in
concept only, hoping to iron out the details after more study and input
    from the attorney general.

The 90-minute debate was marked by members of the public demanding that the
school district fire spokeswoman Jackie Johnson, who gave directory
information to a pro-school political committee.
