FC: NSA "Secret Savin" documents shed light on USS Liberty attack

    In 1967, Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats engaged in a sudden and 
    unprovoked attack on a U.S. government surveillance ship, the U.S.S. 
    Liberty, that was on a peaceful mission in international waters. The attack 
    killed 34 American sailors. The question remaining today is why the attack 
    happened. Was it an accident, or an attempt by the Israelis to limit U.S. 
    surveillance of their military actions against Egypt? See:

    Author James Bamford wrote an excellent book called Body of Secrets that 
    establishes (in my opinion) that the attack was intentional, noting that 
    the Israeli pilots mentioned the ship was flying an American flag:

    Now the National Security Agency, to its credit, has released surveillance 
    tapes (recorded on a U.S. Navy EC-121 plane) and documents in response to a
