-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Politech] Vote expected this week on Patriot Act amendment [priv] Date: Fri, 9 Jul 2004 11:21:46 -0500 From: Matthew Hunter <matthew@private> To: Declan McCullagh <declan@private> References: <40EB805A.40309@private> Turns out the amendment didn't go through due to some questionable tactics by the GOP. The original vote *passed*, but the vote was held open while efforts to persuade vulnerable Representatives were made. 8 Representatives changed their vote from yes to no, resulting in a 210-210 tie vote. Since a majority is required for passage, the amendment failed. I have a webpage up with links to the contact page of each representative who changed their vote, along with a suggested letter. This serves as a reminder that liberty is not for cowards. http://www.triggerfinger.org/weblog/entry/5533 -- Matthew Hunter (matthew@private) Public Key: http://matthew.infodancer.org/public_key.txt Homepage: http://matthew.infodancer.org/index.jsp Politics: http://www.triggerfinger.org/weblog/index.jsp _______________________________________________ Politech mailing list Archived at http://www.politechbot.com/ Moderated by Declan McCullagh (http://www.mccullagh.org/)
