*sigh* Life sucks when you're a H1B. The two most recommended recruiters are alta and ljkusher. Alta never even responded to my web resume submission, and when I called, basically told me they had nothing, with a tone that implied don't call, don't bother them. ljkusher's guy was a lot more polite, but basically I was told that they don't have anything for me. Of course, they will keep me in mind. A couple of people recommended getting the CISSP certification. Any opinions of a H1B + CISSP on getting a new job, moving on? And life really sucks when your recruiting manager makes bald faced lies while recruiting you. And you are stupid enough to take a demotion _and_ a $15k paycut thinking that you have a good chance to move upwards in the new org. Big reality check - if the new place has a reputation for political backstabbing, you need to double check and triple check. And if your new coworkers keep telling you that your new department has retention problems, you better watch out. And it is really demoralizing when I look back upon it. At my previous place, I joined at $35k and had a total compensation in the mid-80s when I left. But the recruiting manager had told me "green card no problem" at the new place. It's been 1.5 years now, and "no problem" is still not a problem for them. And won't be a problem when my H1B finally runs out and I'm kicked out of the country. If anyone has any tips or advice for a H1B who wants to be paid what he's worth, and do what he can do (security, and using technology to save money, improve productivity - check my resume for examples), please give me a holler. I have enough time left on my H1B that I can move to a new place, and for the new place to help me get a greencard so that I can stay on with them. I am easy to work with, relatively smart (Mensa), have some business sense (MBA) and have great references from co-workers, ex-staff members, and ex-senior manager. http://urd.spidernet.to/Resume/resume.txt Thanx in advance for any help rendered. -b0fh ps: Yes, it is a little more troublesome to get a H1B candidate, but he is really motivated, especially in this climate. And no, it is NOT that much of a bother. Check out www.isn.org, www.immigration.com for more info (or ask me 8-))
