    Security Engineer  (Requisition Number 1622)  
    GMAC Insurance Company

    Information Systems and Services  
    Location:   St. Louis, Winston-Salem or Atlanta 
    Hours: Full-time  
    
    Duties and Responsibilities:  The main duties/responsibilities for this
    position include:
    
    -Administers the GM data security program. This includes designing,
    developing, implementing and communicating related policies, plans and
    procedures. 
    
    -Pursues continuous process improvement. Researches, designs, recommends,
    implements, upgrades and audits security measures and initiatives. 
    
    -Monitors and evaluates end user security protocols to reduce all risks to
    company computer resources.   Investigates security breaches and/or
    potential breaches. 
    
    -Performs security vulnerability studies and resolutions in areas not
    limited to the creation of secure user accounts, virtual private networks,
    remote access systems, establishment of a secure multi-vendor environment,
    implementing firewalls, etc.
     
    -Designs, develops, implements and reviews corporate technical security
    architectures. This includes security configuration standards and
    specifications; encompassing mainframe and client-server environments,
    intranets, extranets, voice and data networks, routers, firewalls, DMZs,
    encryption and remote access solutions. 
    
    -Assesses, recommends and implements data cryptography techniques. This may
    include astute inequalities, secure random numbers, key management,
    authentication, encryption, signed applets, code compilation and obscuring
    of bytecode, etc. 
    
    -Designs policies, procedures and methodology to minimize destructive
    measures within our computing environment. This includes staying abreast of
    hacker exploits and tools. 
    
    -Provides expertise in area of security incident response and investigation.
    Provides leadership in the computer forensics process, advanced network
    surveillance, securing of an incident scene, collecting/preserving evidence,
    and the presentation of evidence to senior management, human resources
    and/or law enforcement personnel. 
    
    -Will effectively support and promote GMAC Insurance Core Values. 
    
    -Will perform other duties as requested.  
    
    
    Knowledge and Skills Qualifications required for this position include: 
    
    -Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related
    field and/or equivalent business experience. 
    
    -Security certifications, such as CISSP, GIAC, etc 
    
    -Expert understanding of end user and mainframe host level with 75% of
    experience specializing in data security 
    
    -Demonstrated knowledge of security issues in, and techniques for securing
    all of the following operating systems: MVS, Oracle, SQL, Unix and/or
    Windows NT 
    
    -Demonstrated ability to understand, identify, document, resolve and post
    mortem security issues related to e-mail servers, ftp servers, web servers,
    network protocols, cryptographic protocols, intrusion detections and
    computer forensics. 
    
    -Must demonstrate strong knowledge of security tools and requirements
    sufficient to implement, use and know the limitations of the approved
    security software tools. 
    
    -Must have expert knowledge of CERT alerts, bugtraq, common vulnerabilities
    and exploit mechanisms to facilitate proactive and reactive responses. Also
    educates security personnel and management regarding current threats and
    risk management. 
    
    -Must have expert understanding of network protocols, network designs and
    devices such as routers, switches, firewalls and network intrusion detection
    systems. 
    
    -Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This
    includes the ability to provide clear explanations of problems and
    resolutions. 
    
    -Must have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and
    timeliness in order to exceed customer service expectations. 
    
    -Must demonstrate excellent problem solving skills. 
    
    -Requires a high degree of initiative, mature judgment and dedication 
    
    -Previous project management skills and the ability to multi-task are
    required. 
    
    
    Qualifications desired include: 
    
    -Masters degree is preferred 
    
    -Excellent customer service skills -Demonstrated ability to train and
    provide guidance to other individuals within the organization 
    
    -Effective leadership and motivation skills
