*** Argentine says he hacked into Pentagon computers

An Argentine hacker who cracked Pentagon computers pleaded guilty in
federal court Tuesday to charges of theft. Julio Cesar Ardita, 23,
voluntarily came to the U.S. from his home in Buenos Aires as part of
a plea bargain, prosecutors said. Under the present U.S.-Argentina
treaty, Ardita could not be extradited on charges he unlawfully
intercepted electronic communications and damaged files. Pentagon
officials realized during the summer of 1995 there were a number of
hacks into a number of military computer systems containing sensitive
information about government research on satellites, radiation and
energy. They traced the activity to a computer at Harvard University.
